DIRECTOR'S BLOG - find out what happened each week!
APR 26 - The Wacky Bananas performed their first musical! They sang the tale of a Scorpion King who asked a flock of birds to spy on boys exploring the jungle. But friendly elephants were helping the boys find their way. A dragonfly with a big dream of becoming a spy got the birds to help the boys as well. The Shreky Smurfettes took Volcano Boy to court where he was sentenced to swamp jail. Luckily, an ostrich and a girl along with a creature that was part blob fish, sea urchin, frog, and axolotl helped Volcano Boy out of the swamp so he could go to school. They have been creating new characters while revisiting characters they created in previous weeks such as the Rat Queen, The Cow that Thinks She's a Rat, and Hipmama the Hippo. APR 5 - The Wacky Bananas created a story of how bananas and potatoes learned to get along. Each banana and potato had their own dreams for what they would become some day! The Shreky Smurfettes created a sequel to last week's story about Guacamole the Monkey Dance Teacher who stopped a fight between the monkey kingdom and the rat kingdom through the power of song and dance. MAR 29 -The students kicked it up a notch in their performances today! The Wacky Bananas created an incredible stage picture that came alive. They explored what each character was doing in the jungle on a Wednesday afternoon and each character had their own moment in the spotlight. The Shreky Smurfettes created a musical called The Monkey Princess in which a pterosaur that thought she was ugly learned to love herself. This story of self acceptance involved helpful jaguars, butterfly guards, a royal monkey family, an evil snail, and an evil snake. The musical featured several short songs in which every character got to sing! MAR 15 - Today the Wacky Bananas created a story of the origin of the Sloth Bridge, a beautiful tale of a toucans in one tree and sloths in another and their problem solving for a way to get across. The Shreky Smurfettes created a play with a fascinating group of characters including undercover toucans, police butterflies in uniform, a child with great pants, a bird family with a lot of drama, and a group of sloths finally achieving their life goal of reaching the top of a tree. MAR 1 - Once again, the students had a wealth of creative ideas today and had fun performing their creations! The Wacky Bananas made a story about very cute crocodile babies learning a human greeting and pursuing their dreams of performing onstage. The Shreky Smurfettes told a tale of two mail delivery people that a group of crocodiles and their hippo leader mistook for their meal delivery. FEB 15 - The actors are really getting creative and bold! The Wacky Bananas created a heart-warming story about a Rhino named Dominic who was sick but his friends the Peacock and the Cheetah brought him soup, orange juice, and medicine to make him feel better. The Shreky Smurfettes told a complex story about a rhino, peacock, and anteater running a credit card scam that fooled a snake and nearly a tiger but some frogs set the victims free. FEB 8 - What a fun day we had at Muraco! The Wacky Bananas (K-2) created a story about frogs who started a band called "The Frogs". They were a family traveling to Germany and their band won the competition, which was graciously judged by the older group. A little audience interaction! The Shreky Smurfettes (3-5) continued their amazing story from last week with the same characters but a new plot. The Pirates turned everyone into frogs, including themselves and it was the love of Medusa and an intelligent firefly who could break them from the spell. We can't wait to see where their stories go from here! FEB 1 - Today we created some fascinating stories to perform for each other! The Wacky Bananas Group were pirates that did not want to steal anymore so they sold bananas to raise money to open up a sandwich shop called Pirate Paninis. The Shreky Smurfettes group make a story about the Pirates of the Core-ibbean, the core of the earth, who came up to find out what kind of lipgloss the very cool kiddie pool uses. At the end, all students found a treasure box that contains something they want to be good at or feel and got to imaginatively keep it! JAN 25 - We had an amazing first week with an introduction to creative theater and collaborative storytelling! After playing active games that fostered acting skills, we used images as a prompt and springboard to create our own wacky stories with characters and actions. Our two groups got to perform their scenes for each other. Katrina's K-2 group went a space journey to find food to eat with their feet. Jackie's group of grades 3-5 told the tale of boys in "lunch class" getting in trouble with teacher Evilicious Evilotta right as aliens arrived to steal hair. We can't wait to see what they come up with next! |

“I can’t thank you enough for the amazing talent and enthusiasm you shared with my child, and indeed that you share with the kids in all your programs. You all created a magical environment in which the kids worked hard, learned a lot, and had fun. We are so fortunate to benefit from the great work you do!” - Jill G, Parent of Cast Member
